With her career as Hannah Montana
behind her, it’s difficult to imagine Miley Cyrus as anyone else. Even so, she’s been trying really hard to break free of that character. She’s been making her own type of music and has even appeared on a Sex and the City 2 cameo. Now, she’s all ready to expose her role in the Nicholas Sparks-penned movie The Last Song.
There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the film ever since the 16-year-old popstar was romantically linked to her co-star Liam Hemsworth. But maybe all that was just for their scenes.
As we expect, it has family drama and it’s a romance. It has music too, and it’s not exactly what Miley Cyrus is famous for. Maybe that’s a good thing?
MTV News has posted the official trailer of The Last Song on their website, noting how transformed Miley Cyrus seems to have become since her Disney beginnings. Even she has noticed the change in herself and declared that this is the direction she’s planning to take in her career.
“I changed a lot when I was in Tybee Island [Georgia, filming 'Last Song'],” Miley Cyrus told the publication. “I feel like art really does imitate life. So just showing this movie, I feel like I’m really showing a part of my growth as a person as well . So I’m really excited for people to see it, just because of what it means to me, personally.”
Well, let’s just see what Miley has in store for her fans on The Last Song. Given the Parental Guidance note before the trailer, we can bet it’s far from Hannah Montana. Will her tweener fans stick around after this?
On The Last Song, Miley plays the title character Ronnie Miller. The musically inclined teen who got accepted into Julliard has been struggling with the divorce of her parents. But she has to spend summer with her estranged dad to “reconnect.” There, she lucks out and meets this volleyball player (Liam Hemsworth), who she falls for.
We all know the boy-meets-girl story, and The Last Song isn’t all that different from that formula. Then again, fans of Miley Cyrus might enjoy it anyway. The movie hits theaters in April next year.
Miley Cyrus isn’t the only chart-topper in Hannah Montana, as her co-star Emily Osment has also achieved that status for her music. The 17-year-old singer has just released her EP, titled All the Right Wrongs, last week and already it’s hitting the high notes. As of now, it’s #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and gaining even more fame.
On her official website, Emily Osment posted a video of herself talking about what All the Right Wrongs means to her. She discussed which one was her favorite among those songs she wrote personally, even though all the tunes connect with her on a deeper level.
Here’s the clip of the Hannah Montana starlet talking about how much her songs have been helping her develop into who she is now.
Emily Osment also allowed herself an interview with Eggplante!, wherein she truly delves into the making of her EP and everything she had to go through for its success. First off, there’s why she named it All the Right Wrongs.
“When it comes to naming your album, you really wanna think about it and I didn’t want to go the self-title route just because that’s boring, and I am far from boring!” she exclaimed. “It’s gotta be cool!”
Most of the songs in All the Right Wrongs, she explained, were about one’s struggle to survive being a teenager and growing up. “[I] f you can survive high school, you can survive anything,” she added.
Now, Emily Osment’s music is hardly anything like the bubblegum pop of Miley Cyrus’. It’s simply because this musician has decided that Disney just wasn’t the right path for her.
“I’m not gonna hold back and this is my music and music is about being true to myself, and I felt like if I was restricting myself and what I want to say in my record, I felt like going with Disney would be the wrong move for me,” Emily said. “They’re a wonderful company and I’ve worked with them for four years and they’re amazing people, but when it comes to music, I’m kind of creating another road here and I wanna go with another company.”
That might be the case, but there will always be people comparing her to Miley Cyrus. Emily Osment is simply has a completely different style in her album, and she’s definitely proud of that.
“You know, you’re gonna get judged, so it’s just like, listen to it, you know?” Osment said. “People are going to say what they want to say, it’s alright, write a song about it, it’s okay!”
As work on the fourth and expected final season of Hannah Montana draws closer, series star Miley Cyrus says she hasn’t yet given much thought to how she’ll feel when she puts on Hannah’s signature blonde wig for the very last time, because the character will always stay close to her.

“I don’t think that’s something that’s going to be completely over,” Cyrus told TV Guide Magazine before a charity performance at City of Hope’s Concert for Hope. “I’ll always be involved with that. And the show won’t just come to an end. There will always be reruns and stuff like that, and I think it’s something that I’ll always want to keep in my life. It’s something that has really affected me and put me where I am today.”
Now transitioning into more grown-up fare, the actress/pop star was also enthusiastic about her just-filmed appearance in the “Sex and the City” sequel. “It was pretty cool!” she said. “It was something I’ve always been really into. I’ve always really liked that show. “The cast was just so nice and the director was so nice. It’s such a friendly set.”
And Cyrus addressed her much buzzed-about decision to give up tweeting on her Twitter page. “The reason I mostly got rid of my Twitter is I was just like…I want to take more time to actually do the things I say I’m doing and really do them to the fullest I can. And I don’t feel like I was doing that. So I don’t really miss it. I think the greatest thing, though, is being able to stay connected, but that’s what phones and emails are for, and you can have private conversations and not have to worry about what other people are going to think and what other people are going to say about it.”
Even though it’s just a cameo, seeing Miley Cyrus alongside Kim Cattrall is pretty major news. The Hannah Montana
starlet was caught filming her scene for the Sex and the City 2 movie last Friday, in which the two actresses appear on the red carpet. While their presence alone would be enough to get anyone’s attention, it’s the fact that they’re wearing the same outfit that’s bound to raise a few eyebrows.
Access Hollywood spotted Cyrus and Cattrall in New York City, wearing matching metallic strapless dresses – silvery-bronze, I think – and knee-high boots similar to a pirate’s. The difference in their ensembles was the accessories. While both wore black belts studded with jewels, Kim had a hooped necklace and Miley wore a spiked collar. Very cave-womanly.
Another thing is that Miley Cyrus has black elbow-length leather gloves. She doesn’t have any lines in the film though, and her 53-year-old wardrobe equal was speechless as well.
We reported about Miley’s role on Sex and the City 2 before, but here are more details. Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha is supposedly invited to the premiere of a new film, one that stars her boyfriend Smith Jerrod. She thinks that a “hot and young” look on the red carpet would be perfect for her, so she purchases that sexy dress.
Unfortunately for Samantha, waiting for her at the premiere is Miley Cyrus wearing the exact same outfit. Even though she was ready to make a run for it, Samantha gets stuck in the glare of paparazzi photos and ends up sticking around.
Her gay best friend Anthony Marentino had a comment of his own though, even though the two stars were at a loss for words. He yells, “‘Mother of God. She’s wearing the same dress as Hannah Montana!”
Well, there’s definitely more hilarity on the big screen once Sex and the City 2 premieres in May of next year.
Who missed Miley Cyrus? Someone else, maybe. Her very eager fans have been clamoring for more of her ever since she walked out in the middle of a performance for her “Wonder World” tour. The Hannah Montana
starlet didn’t feel well, stressed out by her duties as a pop star. But lucky for her viewers, things seem sound now.
Earlier this month, Miley warned her fans on Twitter about how her throat was bothering her. “Woke up with a sore throat. Why am I always sick?” she wrote. “Think I’m gonna take one more nap before the big show here in [Salt Lake City].”
Digital Spy reports that later that day, Cyrus had to leave the stage while belting out her hit single “7 Things.” A stage manager informed the audience that the Disney princess was receiving medical treatment, allowing her to return minutes later to complete the show.
But apparently, the pain didn’t end that quickly. “My throat is yelling at me to shut up! Strep is the worst thing ever,” she Twittered again. This caused her to pull out of several shows throughout the tour, and further seek medical help. I guess there’s a big price to pay for being on stage constantly.
Miley’s burn-out lasted for about a week, but it looks like the doctors have done their job. She was allowed to resume her tour at last, kicking off a performance in Michigan tomorrow as planned.
“Got the go ahead from the Doc & the beast is ready to be unleashed!” Cyrus posted. “I always love performing in MI but this show is gonna get crazzzzyyy!”
Well, hopefully there won’t be a repeat performance of that sore throat of hers. Those Miley fans can be wild, and this 16-year-old pop princess needs to relax before a big day. “Sore throat ughh! Resting up for a killer show tomorrow! I LOVE MICHIGAN! I love when it actually feels like the right season.”
They sure grow up quick, don’t they?
Less than two years ago, Miley Cyrus appeared at the Oracle Arena in Oakland and played the part of her Disney Channel alter-ego Hannah Montana. She smiled as she bounced about the stage, singing happy tunes that delighted pigtailed little girls and comforted their minivan-driving chauffeurs (aka, parents).
In that role, Miley (the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus) wasn’t threatening in the slightest. Her function seemed simply to provide a much-needed stepping stone between Raffi, the Wiggles and other children’s music favorites to young-teen idols such as Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears.

Now, however, little Miss Cyrus wants to join that latter group.
On her current “Wonder World Tour” _ the first not to advertise the Hannah Montana name _ the 16-year-old brunette has tossed aside her Disney character’s blonde wig, as well as most of her teeny-bopper charm, in order to further establish her own star. Compared to what we’ve seen in the past – including the 2007-08 “Best of Both Worlds Tour,” which was billed to both Montana and Cyrus – this trek is a decidedly more mature affair.
The result, at least at the gate, has been more of the same for Cyrus. She drew a capacity crowd of screaming young girls and earplug-wearing parents to the Oracle Arena on Friday night. A similar scene awaits the pop princess when she performs Sunday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
Artistically speaking, however, it was more of a mixed bag. She tried mighty hard to prove that she’s all grown up – wearing racy outfits while she worked the microphone like a graduate of Rock Star 101 – and some of her efforts were convincing. At other times, she came across like a run-of-the-mill plastic pop star, which is something that even detractors wouldn’t have called Hannah Montana.
Admittedly, Cyrus is in a tough spot – the human embodiment of the Britney Spears’ song “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.” Her fans are rooting for her to succeed, and go from Disney Radio staple to the regular pop charts, but, more than anything else, they still want her to be Hannah.
To her credit, Cyrus is consciously trying to make the transition as easy as possible on fans. She’s paying attention to the little things and taking baby steps. The star’s performance, while not exactly Disney friendly, isn’t all that daring in comparison to what else exists in the market place. For example, she got a bit friendly with the male members of her band, but there was no groping, bumping or grinding to be seen. That, presumably, will come with the next tour.
The 90-minute show opened with the raucous single “Breakout,” the title track from Cyrus’ 2008 sophomore outing, and it continued at a breakneck pace through “Start All Over,” “7 Things” and “Kicking and Screaming.” She scratched and clawed through these numbers, channeling her inner Alanis Morissette at the best of times, before slowing things down with the ballad “Bottom of the Ocean.”
The visuals were dramatic, if too obvious, as the big overhead screens displayed such things as bubbles rising through water (“Bottom of the Ocean”), a frog catching a fly (“Fly on the Wall”), etc. These were the same screens that would show a lengthy preview of Cyrus’ forthcoming film, “The Last Song,” a smart marketing move that Hannah Montana would certainly sign off on.
The 19-song set list was primarily drawn from the two studio albums credited to Miley Cyrus. It also included one cover (Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll), a snippet of another (Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”) and, just to make things more confusing, four numbers off the “Hannah Montana: The Movie” soundtrack.
Care to guess what songs the fans liked best? Without a doubt, the “Hannah Montana” material _ especially the fun “Let’s Get Crazy” and the tender closer “Climb” _ drew the biggest responses.
That’s to be expected – huge transitions like the one Cyrus is trying to pull off can’t be accomplished without a few growing pains. We definitely saw and heard some on Friday night, but not enough to make us think that Cyrus won’t someday be able to achieve her end goal.
The Hannah Montana
star’s appearance on The Jay Leno Show wasn’t as controversial as you might expect from her. Even the host of the program tried his best to cause a bit of controversy with his queries, but Miley Cyrus kept things mild.
Trying to throw her off track, one question Jay Leno quickly asked was “Who’s your favorite Jonas brother?” Unfortunately for the Niley fans, she dodged any answer that would hint at a romantic reunion.
“I’m going to go with Frankie, the little one,” the 16-year-old popstar said.
Jay Leno had Miley for his “10@10″ feature, which means he had ten questions ready for her during her appearance. Another quick inquiry was regarding Miley’s new nickname, but even though the fans would like to know why, the discussion wasn’t too detailed.
“Recently I got the nickname spider-monkey,” Miley revealed. She didn’t go on to explain, but instead answered another question with more gusto. Yep, it was regarding the hugely publicized Kanye West at the MTV VMAs incident.
As many of her fans know, Miley is a friend of singer Taylor Swift. The Hannah Montana
musician gave her opinion on the matter, telling Leno what she’d do if she was the victim of Kanye West’s insensitivity.
“I would’ve said, ‘Rude, disrespectful,’ but I think I just would’ve had to tell him to let me finish my speech,” Miley declared. ‘So I’m glad she got to do that.”
Now that she’s headlining yet another tour this year, the Disney juggernaut is really getting busier. But if she had the chance to take on another profession, she admitted about her desire to organize weddings.
“I’d be a wedding planner. I decided that the other day. I heard somebody putting their wedding together the other day and I was like, yikes, I need to take over.”
Miley Cyrus kicked off her Wonder World Tour in Portland, Oregon with a show which is a step away from the innocent Hannah Montana persona she is famous for.
“It’s definitely more mature. It’s super fun. It’s kind of for everybody,” the 16-year-old told MTV.
Cyrus told her fans on Twitter: “First shows are always the best/worst. Best because all the excitement and anxiety is released on to stage for the first time. Worst because wardrobe changes don’t always go as planned.”
The show, in front of thousands of screaming fans, featured a series of daring costume changes.
Cyrus began the show by emerging from the bottom of the stage, trying to escape from a huge cocoon for her opening number Breakout.
At one point, she donned a harness for the song Fly On The Wall and proceeded to fly around the stage. For her cover of Joan Jett’s I Love Rock n Roll, Cyrus appeared on stage in black leather shorts and boots and mounted a red motorbike.
Despite her relatively young age, Cyrus showed her unfailing capability as performer. With the help of her back-up dancers, Cyrus provided her audience with choreographed set pieces and a different spectacle for each song. She ended with her hit from the Hannah Montana movie, The Climb, which entered the US charts at number 6.
Cyrus is supported on the 45-city tour by the band Metro Station and will end her tour in early December. She told CNN: “It’s mostly for kids my age, and it’s edgy and it’s rock and roll, but it’s still young and it’s still fun.”
Miley Cyrus has a new talent, which has emerged thanks to her involvement in Nicholas Sparks’ new movie titled The Last Song. While it’s definitely billed as a romance, there’s more of that going on behind the cameras than on screen. She’s been spotted making out with her co-star Liam Hemsworth, and the kiss wasn’t even needed for the flick.
An eyewitness informed The New York Daily News about the incident, wherein the Hannah Montana
starlet locked lips with Hemsworth at Nashville International Airport. Miley’s also mentioned the 18-year-old Australian actor constantly on her Twitter page, which certainly raises a few eyebrows.
Unfortunately, there’s one person who doesn’t relish in the news of Miley’s newfound romance. It’s not Nick Jonas and it’s not Justin Gaston. It’s actually the ex-girlfriend of Liam Hemsworth.
TVNZ reports that Aussie student Laura Griffin was heartbroken, because the Disney princess has taken her “boyfriend and best friend” for her own. The 19-year-old spoke of her 5-year relationship with Hemsworth on her Facebook page.
“Liam and I have been inseparable since school,” she wrote. “But it’s Miley Cyrus. How can I compete?”
Griffin accused the Hannah Montana
sensation of being the reason for the breakup. She also believed she’d still be with Hemsworth if Miley Cyrus didn’t come along. Do we hear a catfight coming on or is this girl backing down too early?
On an interview with Australia’s Woman’s Day magazine, Griffin revealed: “He was my boyfriend and my best friend. There is no other reason why we would have broken up.”
Laura Griffin reportedly broke down in tears upon seeing promo pictures of Miley and Liam for The Last Song, and even more so when they were photographed kissing at the airport. Sadly, she was dumped a few days after filming began.
It’s difficult to believe whether or not Laura Griffin’s telling the truth, since I don’t have any personal connections with this girl whatsoever. She could be making this all up or something, but there really is nothing more she can do. It even sounds like she’s accepted defeat, given the identity of Hemsworth’s new gal.
On the other hand, the 16-year-old popstar is happy with her current romance without minding Liam’s devastated ex. Well, what did we expect? She can get whoever she wants; she’s Miley Cyrus. Soon we’ll even hear cheers of Mileam or Liamiley from her fans.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s “Hannah Montana: The Movie” was the No. 1 home video seller for the second consecutive week, while three titles from Universal Studios — “Duplicity,” “Fighting” and “The Last House on the Left” — snagged the top three spots on the national video rental chart for the week ending Aug. 30.
On the Nielsen VideoScan sales chart, “Hannah Montana” fended off competition from the two Universal titles that were new in stores last week. “Duplicity,” a romantic thriller starring Julia Roberts that grossed $40.6 million in theaters, debuted at No. 2, while “Fighting,” an actioner about street fighting that took in $23 million, bowed at No. 3. “Hannah” scored an easy victory, with both new titles selling 70% and 69%, respectively, as many copies as the Miley Cyrus hit.
“Fighting” did, however, take the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray Disc chart, narrowly squeaking by Walt Disney’s “Adventureland,” a comedy that grossed $16 million in theaters and stars Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame. On the overall home video sales chart, “Adventureland” debuted at No. 6 behind “House: Season Five” from Universal Studios and Warner’s “Smallville: The Complete Eighth Season.”
On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart, “Duplicity” scored just as impressive a victory as “Hannah Montana” did on the sales chart. “Duplicity” entered the chart solidly in control of the No. 1 spot, with second-ranked “Fighting” generating 70% as much rental action as the Roberts flick. Horror remake “The Last House on the Left,” which debuted at No. 1 the previous week, slipped to No. 3, with 42% as much rental action as “Duplicity.”
